KIRAKUTEI used to be a Japanese-style hotel, which was famous for serving authentic local cuisine. It was once demolished and reconstructed and is now open to the general public as a national heritage site. You can join a springtime tea ceremony, have green tea there, and bask in the beautiful garden. The instructor is Sori Karasawa, from the Omote Senke School (for tea ceremonies).
In Japan, warriors’ armors, helmets, and “koinobori” (carp streamers), are often displayed to celebrate the Boys’ Festival on Children’s Day every May 5. At KIRAKUTEI, there will be displays of such symbols, for the “Boys’ Festival,” from April 25 to May 13. Why don’t you come and experience this interesting part of Japanese culture?
